2002 Thunderbird Accessories – What’s new for 2016?
It’s been over 14 years since the first of the 2002 Ford Thunderbirds were delivered, and there have been a lot of aftermarket accessories created for them since. Most 2002-2005 Thunderbird owners are familiar with many of the popular accessories such as the Roadster Style hard tonneau covers, Borla performance exhaust, K&N Cold Air Intake system, fender skirts, and various stainless steel and chrome-plated trim kits. But is there anything new for 2016? Is anyone still creating new and exciting aftermarket ‘mods’ and accessories for the 11th generation Thunderbird?
Happily for Thunderbird owners the answer is yes!
The 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird was a very limited-production car with only 68,095 produced over four model years. That’s very low production for a modern American car, and as a result some aftermarket manufacturers decided it was just too small a market to make accessories for it economically viable. Despite this, many companies did enter the market for custom accessories, and though some have dropped out, others have embraced this tiny niche market.
So if you own a 2002-2005 Thunderbird and are looking for something new and exciting to add to your car, we’ve got some good news. One great new aftermarket product is the new 100-Spoke Classic Wire Wheel. Wire wheels for the 2002 Thunderbird were first introduced by Dayton Wheel Company. But Dayton discontinued theirs about two years ago, leaving no options for Thunderbird owners who craved the retro look of a true wire wheel. Powersport/Thunderbird Specialties recently introduced a new, American-Made wire wheel exclusively for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. Hand-assembled here in the U.S., this stunning wheel features classic ‘spinner’ center caps and lustrous chrome-plating. And they’re priced below the wheels previously offered by Dayton.
Another new product for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird is the ‘Classic’ Tail Light Cover. Unlike the popular chrome-plated tail light bezels, these new covers can be painted to match the exterior paint color and give the tail lights the look of expensive ‘frenched’ light treatments for a fraction of the cost of custom body work.
Another new item just introduced is a simple yet elegant one; ‘3.9’ numbering kits. Most everyone knows that all 2002-2005 Thunderbirds came equipped with a 3.9 liter V8 engine, but Ford never included any exterior badging to show it. Our new kits allow you to add the ‘3.9’ numbers to your front fenders, hood scoop, or anywhere else you choose. Easy to install without tools, just peel off the backing of the adhesive and stick place.
Also new for collectors of Thunderbird apparel are new designs in Thunderbird T-Shirts, caps and lanyards. The Thunderbird ‘Neon Sign’ T-Shirt features the Thunderbird logo in a retro neon light design, while a new Thunderbird baseball cap features the classic original Thunderbird logo first seen on the 1955-57 Thunderbirds. The new lanyard features a repeating T-Bird logo and Thunderbird script lettering.
