New Accessories for the 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird! – It’s been over 13 years since the introduction of the 2002 Thunderbird, so what’s new in aftermarket accessories, performance upgrades and new products? Powersport/Thunderbird Specialties was the very first company to offer aftermarket accessories for the new 2002 Thunderbird with the introduction of its ‘Roadster-Style’ hard Tonneau Cover. The first and most popular Hard Tonneau Cover is so unique, it’s patented! The ‘Roadster-Style’ hard Tonneau Cover was soon followed by the Powersport ‘California Custom,’ a full bolt-on body kit package which allows Thunderbird owners to transform their T-Bird into a head-turning custom show car without body work!
The huge popularity of the new 2002 Thunderbird spurred a number of new aftermarket products including performance upgrades, decorative trim, and thunderbird collectibles. Among the first aftermarket accessories to be introduced were the Chrome-Plated Tail Light Bezels, stainless steel Side Accent Trim, and stainless steel Rocker Panel Trim. Working in cooperation with K&N Engineering, Powersport was involved in the development of the first Cold Air Intake for the 2003 Thunderbird. K&N’s ‘Typhoon’ system, with polished metal intake tube, has become one of the most popular aftermarket performance upgrades. Powersport was also instrumental in encouraging Borla Industries to develop a performance exhaust system for the 2002 Thunderbird. The Borla exhaust is perhaps the most popular of all performance upgrades for the 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird, and is still in production … ten years after the last 2005 Thunderbird rolled off the assembly line.
Another very popular aftermarket upgrade is Powersport’s exclusive ‘Classic Continental Kit.’ This distinctive accessory recalls the look of the now classic 1956 Ford Thunderbird, and features both a rear bumper extension and non-functional spare tire cover.
Low-volume production discouraged many aftermarket manufacturers from entering the 2002-2005 Thunderbird accessories arena. Specialty companies like Powersport/Thunderbird Specialties, however, has continued to innovate, create, and develop new products designed specifically for the new T-Bird. Among the new products introduced are the stainless steel Grille Surround Trim, and Retro ‘Headlight Shades,’ which echo the look of the iconic 1955-57 Ford Thunderbird. One of the most exciting new products for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird is Powersport’s ‘Calfornia Custom’ Aluminum Grille. Inspired by the 2003 Thunderbird Supercharged Concept car, the new aluminum grille represents a major improvement to and upgrade from the stock plastic grill. Each ‘California Custom’ aluminum grille is individually handcrafted from nearly 40 custom-formed components and requires nearly 100 individual hand welds. The result is a stunning piece of ‘automotive jewelry’ that makes an elegant personal statement in refined appearance.
Another Powersport exclusive is the ‘Lake Pipes’ system for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. The ‘Lake Pipes’ were inspired by the hot rods of the 1950’s and 1960’s and feature stunning chrome-plated side exhaust pipes that can be made ‘active’ or ‘inactive’ at the flip of a switch. The Lake Pipes provide both an aggressive exhaust sound and increased horsepower.
Just in time for the 60th Anniversary of the Ford Thunderbird, Powersport/Thunderbird Specialties introduced an exclusive line of apparel to commemorate this important milestone in the history of the Thunderbird. 60th Anniversary items include T-shirts, Baseball caps and jackets, all of which feature the official Ford Thunderbird 60th Anniversary logo.
Powersport/Thunderbird Specialties is committed to continuing to innovate and develop new products, accessories and performance upgrades exclusively for the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. You can browse and shop the full product line at: www.mytbird.com
